Well, school started 3 weeks for the kids and scouts started 2 weeks for both Cubscouts and Girlscouts. Becky is a 2nd year Junior scout and Ray is a Bear Scout this year. We have been getting acclimated to our new teachers, Becky had a new school building (their elementary school has a seperate building for 5th grade), research paper (already on a famous explorer which Becky chose Erik the Red) and Ray had a TSA (Teacher's Special Assistant) to get to know. Becky will be participating in chorus and is in her 3rd year of violin while Ray is starting violin this year.
The latest adventure was also in jelly making. While I grew up watching my Mom canning tomatoes, grape juice, peaches, jellies, jams, and green beans; I had never done more than some rudimentary assistance (usually washing jars, screwing on lids, etc). At my Mom's house, we have a grape arbor which was overflowing with Concord grapes this year, so we decided we were going to try and make some jelly. While we had some learning in the process, I think all of us enjoyed the harvesting, cooking, straining (well maybe not so much) and jelly making. Total we made 35 jars of jelly and have given some to family and friends. Since Raymond and Becky both love grape jelly, we will be able to enjoy home made jelly all year long. Next year, we have plans of trying more preserving of vegtables and other fruits.
